Mission Statement

Why we're here

Be Better Woodgrove seeks to prevent sexual assault and harassment at Woodgrove High School by demanding equitable policy change, inclusive sexual education, and trauma-informed and survivor-centered training for faculty.

About Us

Who we are

We are Be Better Woodgrove, a group of alumni and current students fighting for change within Woodgrove High School and Loudoun County Public Schools. Our group started in June 2020 with a survey of students and alumni, and within 10 days, 338 individuals bravely came forward with their experiences with sexual violence while at Woodgrove. The overwhelming majority of these experiences have a common theme: Woodgrove and LCPS have been mishandling, disregarding, and outright ignoring students’ concerns and experiences.

Our team has been working closely with professionals in sexual violence prevention and Title IX, including Virginia Action Alliance, Loudoun Citizens for Social Justice (LAWS), and Know Your IX. Be Better Woodgrove is committed to reforming the systems that allowed this pattern of sexual violence to persist without intervention. In order to transform these systems and establish a new precedent for combatting sexual assault and harassment at Woodgrove High School, Be Better Woodgrove calls for the school’s administration to listen to and advocate for its students.

As Woodgrove students and alumni, we demand that Woodgrove Be Better. We hope that you do, too.

Demands

What we want

These demands were carefully crafted with help from Know Your IX and the Virginia Action Alliance. These demands have been presented multiple times to the administration at Woodgrove High School. Unfortunately, WHS has refused to commit to them.
